New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health has awarded $1.3 million in funding to three employee-led projects as part of its 2025 Innovation Challenge.

The winning projects are:

  • Operating room XR platform: A portable system that integrates XR glasses, cameras and existing OR equipment to deliver AI-enhanced, real-time surgical video. The platform enables remote consultations and aims to improve access to minimally invasive procedures while reducing the clutter of traditional OR setups.

  • AI for pediatric sleep apnea: A home-based diagnostic tool that uses AI to analyze data from home monitoring devices to detect pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. The tool is designed to expand diagnosis access for families without proximity to sleep centers.

  • All-in-one radiology AI platform: A unified platform that incorporates multiple AI tools into radiology workflows, enabling radiologists to streamline diagnoses with faster, more accurate insights. The platform maintains human oversight to improve patient outcomes.

To date, Northwell Health has awarded funding to 15 projects through the Innovation Challenge, according to a May 8 news release.
