Charles Briscoe has submitted his resignation as president and CEO of Warner Robins, Ga.-based Houston Healthcare, the health system confirmed in a statement shared with Becker’s.

The resignation is effective at the close of the Houston Healthcare and Emory Healthcare transaction, the health system said.

Both boards approved Houston Healthcare’s bid to join Atlanta-based Emory in February, after the two organizations signed a letter of intent for the deal in August 2024. The closing date for the transaction is undetermined.

“Mr. Briscoe is incredibly excited about this next chapter for Houston Healthcare and is proud of the team’s dedication and hard work,” Houston Healthcare said. “He fully supports Emory and the opportunities this collaboration will bring to the community.”

Mr. Briscoe has been with Houston Healthcare for approximately eight years and has served as permanent president and CEO since January 2020.

“We appreciate his outstanding leadership and contributions during his eight years with Houston Healthcare and wish him and his family the best,” Houston Healthcare said. “Our focus remains on ensuring a smooth transition and continuing to serve our patients, employees and community with excellence.”

The proposed deal would add Houston Healthcare’s two hospital campuses — totaling 282 beds — along with five outpatient facilities and nine physician practices to Emory’s portfolio. Emory Healthcare comprises 10 hospitals, the Emory Clinic and approximately 500 provider locations.
