Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth has named Richard Zane, MD, as its next chief medical officer, effective Aug. 1.

Dr. Zane currently serves as the 14-hospital system’s chief innovation officer, a role he will continue alongside his CMO responsibilities. He will also maintain his clinical practice in the emergency department at University of Colorado Hospital.

Dr. Zane joined UCHealth in 2012 and previously served as the system’s inaugural chair of emergency medicine. He is nationally recognized for developing a care model that significantly improved the efficiency and quality of emergency care across UCHealth, a model that has since been adopted internationally, according to a March 26 news release.

He succeeds Margaret Reidy, MD, as CMO, who earlier this year shared plans to transition to a part-time associate chief medical officer position.
